The French Drop
Effect: You grab a coin from your left hand with your right and close up your hand. The coin then vanishes from your right hand
Preparation: None
Performance:
With your left hand, hold a coin so that it’s level between the tips of your thumb and fingers. Make sure your fingers are close enough together so that the spectators cannot see between them
Your right hand approaches the coin, apparently taking the coin by sliding your thumb underneath it.
Cover the coin completely with your right fingers.
As you grab the coin, release the pressure in your left thumb and fingers so the coin falls into your left palm.
Close your right hand, as if you just grabbed the coin.
Close your left hand and casually point to your right hand, indicating the coin is in the right hand now.
Open the right hand to reveal that it’s empty.
Tips: Practice this trick slowly at first- don’t worry about speed. Just focus on getting the movements exact. With practice, you will be able to do this sleight more and more quickly, and it will start to look much more smooth and natural. A good way to practice is to actually take away the coin with your right hand, noticing how it looks and feels, and then practice the drop.
